Students face many challenges as a result of systemic oppression and racism. These challenges are often amplified in our classrooms when students are not truly engaged, invested, or connected to both in the academic content and the classroom experience. We know that classroom culture and student engagement are the prerequisites to increasing student achievement. It is more pressing now than ever that we begin to create classroom environments where students are encouraged to reach their academic growth goals while also empowering them to become the leaders to solve problems in our communities.
In this session, participants will build a foundational knowledge of culturally responsive teaching, create solutions to challenges in student engagement, and explore culture building strategies to recharge classrooms and schools.
